Dear players of the Bandy under-19
World Championships, coaches and guardians, and the whole Bandy family!
Pori offers a traditional and top quality Bandy stadium for the youth
World Championships. The versatile sports complex here has been right next to
the city centre of Pori. I believe that the rink and the surrounding buildings
and stands will provide great facilities for the championships.
Pori is one of the oldest places for Bandy in Finland. In the
1930s, there were three Pori teams playing in the top league. However, in the
1950s, the popularity of Bandy as a hobby began to decline, until it returned to
Pori with the founding of Narukerä in 1960. Since then, the Narukerä team has
been one of Finland’s most successful Bandy clubs.
However, Narukerä is currently well known for as a club for young talent. Its junior work is renowned in Finland and the results are there for all to see: Narukerä’s young prospects have played and are still playing in several of the teams playing at the highest level in Finland, Sweden and Russia.
On behalf of the City of Pori and myself I would like to wish you all a
successful World Championships! Play hard but fair.
Welcome to Pori!

Kari Hannus
Deputy Mayor of Pori
